On April 28-30, 2025, the Philippines, through the Government Procurement Policy Board – Technical Support Office (GPPB-TSO), will host the East Asia and the Pacific International Public Procurement Conference, which will bring together 150 procurement regulatory agencies, practitioners, academics, civil society, and development partners from the region and other countries.

Co-hosted by the World Bank Philippines, the Conference draws upon the expertise and track record of the Philippines, which was chosen as host country because of its notable progress in procurement reform, specifically in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and innovation. The selection of the Philippines as host country was announced in the first International Public Procurement Conference held in the Republic of Korea in May 2024 (https://www.worldbank.org/en/events/2024/05/07/accelerating-sustainable-development-through-sustainable-public-procurement?fbclid=IwY2xjawJ2c9NleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHagrJB5mZ0_93Zqso-ttfXBsXqv5_L7SybuGgUg2i21jUw37AJeVm9jNDw_aem_LCTrgL7USwUm29kTq24Klg).

Through the years, the Philippines, through GPPB-TSO, has built a reputation as a pioneering advocate for civil society participation in procurement and digitalization, noting too the landmark passage of the New Government Procurement Act (NGPA) in July 2024. The Conference in April presents a propitious platform for the Philippines to showcase its milestones in public procurement to an international audience.

With the theme “Procurement for the People: Bridging Innovation, Value for Money, and Accountability,” the East Asia and the Pacific International Public Procurement Conference will steer a multistakeholder, multi-country discussion of lessons learned and policy options to modernize procurement, optimize public spending, and strengthen accountability. It also intends to foster regional cooperation to enhance procurement outcomes and service delivery among the participating countries from Cambodia, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Vietnam. The Conference is supported by the Islamic Development Bank and Asian Development Bank.

The event will be attended by procurement authorities from the East Asia and Pacific region, along with invited line agencies. Everyone is encouraged to watch the event live on Facebook through the official GPPB-TSO account.
